Gary Ritz behind brewery bar with pint of new beer, Cerveza El Dorado.

Cerveza El Dorado

I am happy to introduce our first Hwy 50 lager, a Mexican lager we’re calling Cerveza El Dorado. It’s on tap now, and I hope you’ll give it try—especially if you’re a fan of light crisp Mexican lagers. I’ve always liked a good lager. When Diane and I go out to other breweries, I order a pilsner most times or some type of lager, because I enjoy the style so much. They have a lower alcohol volume too, so Diane can enjoy whatever beer she wants, and I can drive us home! Continue Reading Cerveza El Dorado

Road, white lines, Wit Line Fever

Wit Line Fever

This amazing Belgian beer is a style that dates back hundreds of years; however, it fell into relative obscurity until it was revived by Belgian brewer Pierre Celis in the 1960s. Fortunately, this nearly extinct style is currently enjoying a renaissance. Continue Reading Wit Line Fever

Barrel Aged Big Mash Imperial Stout

Here’s news our beer-loving friends have been waiting for over the past 13 months or so. Our barrel-aged Big Mash Imperial Stout is in bottles and on tap. This is a traditional style Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Kentucky. After dubious sampling sessions, we can honestly say, we're really happy with the results. Continue Reading Barrel Aged Big Mash Imperial Stout

Mango, Tangerine and Coconut: Hwy 50’s Single-hop, One Way IPAs

I love a good IPA as much as the next beer lover. As a brewer, I know most IPAs are made by combining two or more hop varieties to create the overall aromas and flavors we all enjoy. However, when you combine several hop varieties, you create amazing flavor and aroma profiles, but you miss getting to know a particular hop for its own individual characteristics. As we have discovered with our One Way IPA series, there are hop varieties out there that are absolutely worth getting to know on their own! Continue Reading Mango, Tangerine and Coconut: Hwy 50’s Single-hop, One Way IPAs

From Driveway to Tap Room: Hwy 50’s In The Ditch English Style Porter

In The Ditch Porter is from an old recipe I used to make out on my driveway during my home brewing days. I called it “Cats and Dogs Porter” because it seemed like every time I brewed it, regardless of the time of year, it would rain cats and dogs! Rear View Winter, Into Summer

Thanks to all of our loyal friends and guests, we made it through our first Winter. Opening the first week of November, can be a little scary, to say the least, but with the overwhelming support of all of you, it is Spring, and we are still here. During the last six months, we have worked to make a visit to HWY 50 Brewery an increasing more enjoyable experience for all of our treasured guests. As many of you know, we have expanded our kitchen menu, added live music nearly every Saturday and Sunday, and as requested, increased our beer selections. Speaking of beer selections, we added... Gary Ritz, Brewer, stirs the boil kettle.

Our First Brew Day!

With final construction going on outside but the brew house ready for action, Brewer, Gary Ritz, began brewing the first Hwy 50 Brewery beer on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. It's been since 2014 that Gary last brewed commercially, and two years since the Olivos and the Ritz's started making plans for Hwy 50 Brewery. It's also been months of hands-on work to renovate the building and get the brewery equipment in, assembled, and up to speed. So Gary was pretty stoked! Continue Reading Our First Brew Day!
